Goals: Ride 2000 miles Take an adventure/vacation (a.k.a. “palooza”) Attend a year-end retreat at St. Andrews Abbey |
Unplanned/Unexpected Events:- On the spur of the moment, I decided to throw myself a birthday party for my 60th. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I was surprised to have 50 of my friends attend. Some of whom, I hadn’t seen in 20 years. It meant a lot to me to connect/reconnect with everyone.

Lessons Learned/Re-Learned:- I have had a half-dozen crashes on my bike (with scars to prove it) … but I’m slowly learning how to avoid them. The biggest problem is how to teach my instincts to react properly without thinking. If I have sufficient time to think, then I have time to process, sort options, choose wisely, and implement the best solution. If I am in an emergency, there’s no time to think. All I have are my instincts. So, I must re-train my instincts to behave safer. At 60, that’s a bit of a challenge.

Year-End Thoughts:- I have mostly integrated into my new church at FPC Upland. I have a true friend in Pastor Noel. We are producing a Podcast (which we both enjoy a lot, even if no one listens to it).
- I have committed to transferring all of my “GEO” business intellectual assets to Gold-Youth, and they are excited to receive it. This process should be completed sometime in 2023. I did my best, but I can see that my “entrepreneurial” plans were doomed to fail from the beginning. I feel a bit foolish for spending 10 years of my life on GEO with so little to show for it.
- My job at IVAR is going well. I hope to work there for as many years as I can add value.
- I rode my bike a lot in 2022. In fact, I rode at least 50 miles (called a “Half-Century”) 9 times this year.
