Spiritual Life – Thoughts

I came to faith in Jesus Christ on May 2, 1979 at 3:45pm after praying the “sinner’s prayer” with Bob Twaddle on the campus of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo (Cal-Poly SLO). I have always wanted to excel in spiritual wisdom. So early on, I devoted myself to biblical reading and study. However, I soon read Ecclesiastes 12:12 where Solomon said, “… Of making many books there is no end, and much study is wearisome to the flesh.” I never forgot this and I never wanted to be one of those people described by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. as being, “… so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good“.

As I get closer to the end from the beginning, I echo the words of Ivan in the ‘The Brothers Karamazov’:

“Surely I haven’t suffered simply that I, my crimes and my sufferings, may manure the soil of the future harmony for somebody else. I want to see with my own eyes the hind lie down with the lion and the victim rise up and embrace his murderer. I want to be there when everyone suddenly understands what it has all been for.”
