In 1999, Pine Knot Landing (located on Big Bear Lake, California) started converting from a rental facility to a private ownership marina – “The Dock Club ” for slip and moorage users. The term term used was “dockominium” which is the water-based version of a condominium; rather than owning an apartment in a building, one owns a boat slip on the water. I was hired briefly to do bookkeeping. In early 2006, I was told to testify before an arbitrator regarding facts related to the recovery of “possessions of property, termination of tenancy, and recovery of accrued rent.” The matter was arbitrated and an award was made in PKL’s favor. It was all a bit intimidating.
