2022-01: Yountville, California

  • I drove from my Mom’s house on Mare Island up to Napa so I could ride the Napa Valley Vine Trail. I parked my car and unloaded my bike at the Trancas Park and Ride. I was going to visit my friend Nancy Merha in Napa and take a short bike ride. However, I called Nancy when I got there…. And she was recovering from some health issues, and wasn’t ready to have visitors.
  • So, I went on an unplanned route to Yountville with ideas for destinations as far as I could get.
  • Once I got through the town of Yountville, I made my way up the Silverado Trail. This trail is a scenic route that travels 29 miles along the Eastern edge of the Napa Valley, parallel to and several miles to the east of California State Route 29. The weather was gorgeous, and the yellow-mustard flowers were blooming in the vineyards.

  • Prestigious wineries with Silverado Trail addresses include Joseph Phelps, ZD Wines, and Signorello Winery—plus the famous Stags Leap District collection of wineries
  • I rode along the Silverado Trail until I reached the junction with Highway 128, and then I turned around and headed back. I rode a total of 28.9 miles in 183 minutes.

PS: 2 Bicyclists Killed

On 10/17/2023, two cyclists were riding north on Silverado Trail at about 11 a.m. next to a Freightliner three-axle truck carrying lumber just north of Oak Knoll Avenue when the wood shifted over the edge of the truck bed and hit them. The load itself never fell off the truck, it just shifted and that’s what hit the victims.
