Milestones
- 1st time biking along the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail
- 1st time being warned about venomous creatures.
- Part of my 1st Annual “Bike-A-Palooza” (SEE the Whole Trip)
My last leg of the trip was going through Tucson, AZ. I was surprised to find out there was an extensive bike trail in the city. It’s called the “Huckelberry Loop”. The trail is a system of paved, shared-use paths and short segments of buffered bike lanes that extends through unincorporated Pima County, Marana, Oro Valley, Tucson, and South Tucson. I found a nice hotel in South Tucson within 1/4 mile of the trail. It was super convenient.
- These are huge solar panels owned by “Global Solar Energy, Inc.” Riding upon these strange structures out in the desert, they looked quite alien to me.
- I saw this marker, and thought it was interesting. It’s the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail that runs through Arizona and California.

- Really? After surviving dozens of tarantula spiders in Flagstaff, I see this sign in Tucson! What creatures does this include? Good motivation to keep pedaling!
- I rode my 8th “Half-Century” (50 miler)… about to jump in the shower… and looking forward to a Margarita with dinner tonight.
- I had a wonderful bike vacation. It was a big stretch for me (physically, mentally, etc.) But, totally worth it.
- I have talked with several friends and family over the last week, and the consensus is that everyone is…. very proud and encouraging of my efforts. … They really shouldn’t do that!
So jealous! Hope to get down there myself one day. Love the venomous critter sign. It just adds to the thrill!
