- Part of my 2nd Annual “Bike-A-Palooza” (SEE the Whole Trip)
The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes is a 73-mile paved trail spanning the Idaho panhandle between Mullan and Plummer. It was created through a partnership between the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, Union Pacific Railroad, the U. S. Government, and the State of Idaho. The trail meanders through the historic Silver Valley, along the Coeur d’Alene River past scenic Lake Coeur d’Alene and through rolling farmlands to Plummer.
I started my ride at the trailhead in Harrison, ID. I literally parked my car 5 feet from the trail.

- The ride was beautiful. I saw 6 quail, 3 herons, 3 white-tailed deer, 2 small snakes, dozens of ducks, a mother Pheasant and 6 chicks, and the best of all….. what looked like a mink. I say it was a mink because it was about 1ft long, dark brown fur, and maybe 1lb. It ran across the bike trail which is surrounded by lakes and wetlands.
- I wanted to go 40 miles, and I was making great time … I reached the car 30 minutes ahead of sunset. But, it was already raining when I started to load my bike into the car. I was drenched.
- The next day was a rainy, stormy mess… I didn’t ride
