Milestones
- 1st time on a cruise
Covering 3.3 million acres of rugged mountains, dynamic glaciers, temperate rainforest, wild coastlines and deep sheltered fjords, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is known as Homeland to the Huna and Yakutat Łingít, and is a highlight of Alaska’s Inside Passage.
I drove to Mom’s house on Mare Island, and the next morning we walked down to the ferry and rode across the San Francisco Bay. As we got close to docking, we saw the Ruby Princess waiting for us.
As we got closer, our ship got bigger. By the way, …
- A ship can carry a boat… but, a boat can’t carry a ship.
That’s the difference.

Once onboard, the view was already pretty nice.
I went exploring to find some great views. I wasn’t going to waste a second of this trip.
Peaking over the balcony of our stateroom, this tugboat escorted us away from the pier.
We soon passed Alcatraz Prison.
I was so looking forward to going under the Golden Gate Bridge. It was spectacular.
We emerged at the Marin Headlands.
The next day we were “full steam ahead” to Alaska, with beautiful blue skies.
This was soooooo cooooool!… watch and listen to the video… it will almost make you want to join the Navy! No, not like the “Village People”.
As we got close to Glacier Bay, the weather turned colder.
We passed other ships going the other way.
This is the first glimpse of the glacier.
The captain spun the ship around so all sides could see the glacier. Wonderful!!!!!
And then…. we were headed south… back home.
